Primary 6

Primary 6

In primary 6 we are continuing with our NFER spelling programme to develop spelling ability.  Children will be encouraged to use a variety of active spelling tasks to learn the spelling of new words. The children will be given a different spelling task each week in order to learn their spelling words for their test on a Friday.

Throughout primary 6 the children will be continuing to develop their writing and will be able to make use of similes/metaphors, use various conjunctions, interesting openers, various punctuation, varied sentence structures and correct paragraphing.  Children will also be given experience of writing in different genres.

Handwriting is encouraged throughout all written work as well as focused handwriting lessons to develop specific skills.

Primary 6 will develop their reading skills primarily through the Ginn Reading Programme and Reciprocal reading. We will also be using a variety of texts throughout the year to support and develop our reading, comprehension, talking and listening skills.
