Primary 5/6

Hi and welcome to Primary 5/6. Throughout this session we have been working hard and are busy learning new concepts.

Some of the areas we have covered in maths have included Number, Measure, Time, Angles and Problem Solving. This is as active as possible and we use the interactive whiteboard, individual white boards, number fans, clocks and maths computer software to enhance our learning. Keep supporting us by revising our tables often, letting us work out the shopping bill and weighing out the ingredients when baking!

We love to read and although Ginn is our core resource, this term we are using the novel ‘The Desperate Journey’ by Kathleen Fidler to further support our understanding of what life was like for one family during the 1800’s.

Reading at home really helps with our story writing and regular visits to the library are an ideal way to choose books of personal interest as well as supporting the Eco- School message to reuse where possible.

NFER spelling is followed and offers a new rule weekly. We try to include many new words into our story writing as well as learned grammar and punctuation techniques. As common words follow no rules regular revision of these is a great help.

Social Studies

So far this session we have learned about Media Matters through the film Lassie, Energy and Forces and Christmas.

We are currently transforming our classroom into something special and look forward to seeing you in the near future to share this.

Homework is issued Monday – Thursday and we appreciate your support in signing your child’s diary.

PE takes place Tuesdays and Fridays. Try to ensure your child is prepared.

Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you in March.
