Primary 4

We are rested after a lovely Easter break and ready to work hard in our final term of P.4.

Last term was very successful and our Viking topic was fantastic. The children have learned all about life in Viking times and how this impacts on our lives today. The classroom was a wonderful learning centre with every child contributing to its transferral to a Viking Long House and Long Ship. We had a wonderful trip to Vikingar in Largs, where we even had the chance to dress up as Vikings and act out a scenario.

This term is a very special term for us as we will receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist. We have been preparing at home, in Church and at school to make this special event one we will remember forever.

In maths this term we will continue to work with the tables and look at their links to division and fractions. We are developing our logical thinking and using what we have learnt to tackle word problems and everyday situations.; We are trying to increase our speed and accuracy with mental calculations and have been timing ourselves with speedy sums. As part of a game based learning project we are using Nintendo DS Brain Training to increase our mathematical accuracy and train our brain to respond quickly. This has been great fun. At the moment most of us have a brain age of 80! But watch this space!

In language we should continue to practise our spelling at home and become more accurate at transferring these rules to our writing. We have also been trying to introduce more wow words to our stories. Our joined handwriting is maturing now and we are proud of the presentation of our work.

Homework will still be issued Monday to Thursday, please remember to check your child’s work for accuracy and presentation and sign their diary. Time should also be taken to complete achievements as we are very successful in P.4 and we should recognise this.

Thank you for your continued support.
