Primary 4

Primary 4

Welcome to our first term of the new session. Primary 4 have been extremely busy since coming back to school.

In Maths the children will be learning about place value to

10 000 and will be adding and subtracting numbers up to 1 000. Throughout the year the children will be developing their mental strategies and continue to use their knowledge of all the tables to do this with increasing speed.

Please continue to support them by revising their tables often.

Other areas that they will be introduced to are weight, length and the properties of 2D and 3D shape.

From Primary 4, Ginn is our core reading scheme. The children are enjoying  stories with new vocabulary and they will be developing their skills in skimming and scanning to locate information. Offering their opinions as to meaning will also be encouraged. Please help your child by listening to them read regularly.

Throughout the year the children will be introduced to various social study topics. These will include Scotland, Water and the Vikings.

This year the children will prepare for the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion. These will take place in November 2011 and May 2012. Confirmed dates will follow.

Homework is issued Monday to Thursday. Please ensure the diary is signed daily and the children enter their achievement of the week on a Thursday evening.

Thanks for your continued support.
