Primary 3/4

Welcome to Primary 3/4's web page. We have had a busy year so far and have settled well with our new classmates.

We have covered the following topics of The Jungle Book, a Science topic of Push and Pull and also Christmas.  As you have probably guessed our new topic is The Celts and The Romans and we are working very hard as a team to transform our classroom in to something fabulous.

What will we learn?

We will work together with our teachers to plan our learning and our next steps.

We will be actively involved in our learning in class and by completing homework tasks.

As well as learning new concepts we will be encouraged to be more independent.

We will focus greatly on presentation and forming the joined script - please be patient as some letter formation may change from previously learned styles.

We will follow the Nelson style of writing. We would appreciate your support in ensuring your child produces homework of a high quality using sharp pencils, rulers and rubbers, if necessary.

We will use the Ginn reading scheme in class and will sometimes have reading for homework.  Reading should be encouraged at home whenever possible, even if it is only the cereal box or the cooking instructions for dinner.

We will learn new spelling words every week however we should be encouraged to look at the common words too. For homework we should Look, Say, Cover, Write and Check-we will have weekly spelling test based on the weekly words.

We will develop our story writing by planning our writing with the teacher and our peers.

We are following the SHM programme for maths however we will take any opportunity to have active, hands on sessions where the children work collaboratively and solve real life relevant problems. You should encourage your child to revise their number facts and tables appropriate to their age and stage. Mental strategies will be worked on and the children will be encouraged to develop strategies to work out maths questions and problems.

Religious Education

This year Primary 3 will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Primary 4 will be Confirmed and receive the Holy Eucharist for the first time. The Church organise these Sacraments and any queries regarding this should be directed to Fr. Hannah.

Gym Days

Your child has gym on Tuesday and Thursday. We would ask that all children come to school with the appropriate gym kit-shorts T-shirt and indoor shoes.

All jewellery must be removed with no exceptions.  If earrings cannot be removed then plasters must be provided and the teacher notified.

Your child will have homework every night from Monday-Thursday.

Please check your child’s homework diary every night and sign it only when homework is completed.

Please use the diary as a form of communication with the teacher as we will use it to get in touch with you sometimes.

Finally.....thank you for your continued support throughout the year and we look forward to seeing you at our Joyning the Learning evening.
