Primary 2D

Primary 2D

Welcome to Primary 2D. I am delighted to say that we have all settled well back into school life. The children are all working very hard in all areas and are having lots of fun using Active Learning resources and role play to deepen their understanding in all areas of learning.

This is an overview of what we will be learning this year-

Reading

Children will be reading from Story Worlds this year. We will also be making great use of our wonderful new school library where we shall be able to select and enjoy fiction and non fiction texts to support our classroom learning.Children will gain experience of reading aloud , paired reading and reading to an audience. Please support your child at home by reading and practising 'over and over' words on a nightly basis.

Writing

Children in Primary 2 will be engaged in writing across all genres.Throughout the year they will gain experience of  personal, functional and imaginative writing. They will be encouraged to independently use capital letters, full stops , joining words and interesting describing words. We will also begin to make use of a written plan to help structure our writing. Please support your child at home by encouraging them to independently write words and sentences in their spelling and sounds homework during the week.To encourage your child to become an independent writer they will be working on a sound of the week in class.Sounds need to be constantly reinforced during Primary 2. Please use the sounds booklet and sounds homework tasks to support your childs phonics. Children will also begin to learn to spell the first hundred common words through lots of fun and exciting activities in class. Please encourage them to Look,Say ,Cover ,Write and Check their spelling words each night in preparation for the weekly spelling test.
