Primary 2C

Primary 2C

Welcome back to a new school year. The children have all settled quickly to the routines of Primary two and have relished being ' the big ones', this year.  I am delighted that we are all together again. We have been visiting many of the numeracy and maths concepts introduced in primary 1 and are now looking forward to extending that knowledge.  Topics will include addition and subtraction to twenty, including money, recognising coins, calculating change, interpreting data from a graph, 2D and 3D shape and telling time to the half hour with durations.

In reading, we will continue with the story world books.  As your child reads to you for homework, please encourage them to read with fluency and expression as this will help to promote their confidence as readers.  Asking children questions related to the story helps to develop their understanding.

Our topics this year will be, The Twinnies, The Senses, Interdisciplinary topic and Our Local Area. Children are always eager to bring in items related to their topic into school and enjoy sharing and discussing them with their peers. Please encourage children to bring these in but do not send fragile or expensive items in as accidents can happen!

Our PE days are Thursdays and Fridays.  Pupils may bring their kit on Mondays and take it home on Friday.

Homework will be given on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  All homework activities are given to support class work and it is recommended that pupils complete all homework tasks.  If your child is unable to complete homework please note this in the diary but please return the homework as this is often required for use in class.  If at any time your child struggles with homework, please let me know in order that we revisit this concept in class.  Reading books should be sent to school every day.

If you have any concerns about your child, please do not hesitate to contact me, either via the diary or by telephoning the school office.

Thank you as always for your support.  We look forward to seeing everyone as Primary 2 take the lead roles in the nativity in December.
