Eco Committee

Holy Family Primary School Eco-Committee

We are delighted to announce that Holy Family has been awarded their fifth Green Flag. Our ongoing commitment to the the environment was recognised by the Eco Schools Assessors when they visited our school this month. We have already begun the next phase in the programme and our targets this year are to reduce litter and address the ways which we can save energy. The Eco programme is managed by Mrs Campbell and Mrs Doran and they would like to thank all of the pupils who have been involved in the Eco Committee over the previous two years.

The Eco-Committee is very popular and every year new members are elected onto the committee.  The children are required to submit an application form to the school Eco Coordinator and give reasons as to why they would be a great addition to the Eco-Committee.  All applicants are then invited to give a short speech about the work they would hope to achieve if they were elected. New members are elected through a ballot.

We are part of the Eco-Schools program of environmental and sustainable developmental education for schools. The aim of Eco-Schools is to raise students’ awareness of sustainable development issues thought classroom study and community action. The themes  are:, Water, Waste/Litter, Energy, Nature and Biodiversity, School Grounds, Transport/Sustainable Mobility, Healthy Living, Noise, Local Agenda 21 and Climate Change.
