Road Safety Education

Categories: School News

Road Safety Education

This year’s Annual Road Safety Calendar competition was judged by Councillor Ashay Ghai and we are delighted that Holy Family has seven prize winners. First prize in the primary 3 category was won by Zac, while Dillon received second prize in the primary 1 category. Chloe, Danni, Emily, Katie, and Brady were highly commended for their work.

Zac and Dillon attended a prize giving ceremony in Kilmardinny Arts Centre in Bearsden where they were awarded a monetary prize.

As part of our awareness programme for safety on the roads, our Junior Road Safety officers visited every class and gave an excellent presentation on road signs, what they mean and how they can keep us safe. Well done to everyone involved.

East Dunbartonshire Superhero Competition

East Dunbartonshire held a writing competition this year and the theme was home safety. Pupils were asked to create a suoerhero who would help to save lives and prevent accidents in the home. As well as writing about their hero, entrants had to design a costume fit for a hero. Holy Family had several winners who attended a prize giving in June at Kilmardinny House Arts Centre in Bearsden.

Green Flag Raised

Categories: School News

Our whole school was delighted to have received their fourth green flag as a result of a joint effort from pupils, staff and the Eco Committee. The flag was awarded from the Eco Schools organisation. Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a framework to help embed these principles into the heart of school life. To be awarded 4 flags is a real achievement and Holy Family are rightfully proud that their hard work is being recognised. Unfortunately, our flag pole was stolen last year and we have been unable to fly the Green Flag. Now however thanks to Cala Homes who kindly donated a flaf pole, we were able to hoist the flag in June.  To celebrate, the pupils joined Suzie the mascot and Joanna Wilson from Cala Homes.

We have Fair Trade Status!

Categories: School News

The hard work of the Fairtrade Committe has paid off. We have recently been awarded Fairtrade Status and can therefore be proud to call ourselves a Fairtrade School.

Millions of farmers depend on selling their crops to survive, but when prices drop it can spell disaster. If farmers earn less than it costs to run their farm, they face real hardship.

Fairtrade makes sure that farmers and producer organisations get a fair and stable price for their products to help them support their families and invest in a better future.

Thank you to the whole school community for their support in achieving our goal. We have had lots of fun planning all of our events and we aim to continue promoting Fairtrade products within our school community and beyond in the coming years. Please keep buying Fairtrade products, whenever possible.
